You can either go to Insert on your tool bar and drop down, you'll see Symbol. Click on symbol and you will get a table of symbols. You can find the cent sign, degree sign and many, many more there. Highlight the symbol you want and click on insert at the bottom of the table. Or, you can hold down the ALT key and at the same time type, from the numbers keypad, 0162 for the cent symbol, and 0176 for the degree symbol. You have to type the numbers from the smaller numbers only keypad on the right of your keyboard, typing the numbers on the regular keypad won't work. Or, you could also, while you are in word, Click on: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map for a list of characters.
Different fonts will have different characters, if you don't see the character you want, try a different font.
