This depends on the wireless card vendor, but for Linksys, right-clicking on the green wireless icon in the notification area will give you the option to use Windows to manage the wireless connection. If that does not work, you can jump straight to the Network Connections panel by clicking Start -> Run (or just Start in Vista) and typing in ncpa.cpl . Hit and you'll open the Network Connections window.Locate your Wireless Network Connection, then right-click and hit Properties.Click on the [Wireless Networks] tab at the top.The very first option is "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings."
The Linksys Wireless-G Compact Internet Video Camera is a nice option
If you need help with the Linksys wireless router, your specific cable company should probably be able to advise you on the phone. If you can't get it done by yourself, there is always the option of making an appointment with them or with Geeks on patrol.
Netgear and Linksys are both very good brands. NETGEAR WNR3500L is a good option with bundled USB, also, the LINKSYS E3000 Wireless Router is a good option. Both of these are on Newegg.com where you can get some really good reviews on all their routers.

If you need a wireless network signal to go through a metal building an antenna can help but is not the only option. Most Linksys models have 2 attached antennas which will work well in these conditions.
most routers have default settings and basic steps to use them are almost always documents on their websites. however in the usual case for linksys the default wireless network ID would be "linksys" so when you browse for wireless networks in range of your pc, the strongest signal named linksys should be yours. browsing for wireless networks varies depending on the operating system, but since most have windows xp or windows vista right now you generally look at the bottom right hand side, right to the left of the clock and look for a computer with waves coming off of it (xp) or what looks to be a icon of a computer monitor ( which may have a red X next to it if ur not connected via a cable or wireless yet) double click or right click this icon and choose view available wireless networks. then it should be straight forward from there. another approach is to click the start menu icon in the bottom left and look for a connect to option. then choose connect to wireless network. they both get you to the same place. again it is highly recommended you secure your wireless router either by following the instructions on www.linksys.com or hiring a professional to set it up for you.
go into hardware settings their should be an turn of\on option. device manege, click on network cards, and then chose your wireless adapter. their should be something like turn of \turn on option.
Nowadays most of computers come with wireless adapters but it is an extra option and you need to pay for it. You always can check presence of wireless adapter by going to Device Manager->Network adapters.
You need to make sure that the wireless option is on. Some routers allow turning off wireless interface. For that you need to log in your router and check setting for wireless. If it appears that everything is working you need to get a computer with a wireless card which you know works for sure. Try finding your wireless network. Also make sure that when you set up your wireless network you start from unsecured network just to make sure that your router is working. Also make sure that option "Allow broadcast" is on. You can disable it later when you switch to secured type of network. If nothing works try resetting the router, how to do that should be written in the manual. Firmware update might help too.
