Is CPU speed more important than advances in operating system technology?

Depends on what you need. the simplest way to think of it is like a work bench. The size of the working area is the RAM, Your tool box on the floor is your Hard drive, your arms are the buss transfer system and your brain is the operating system. If you increase how fast your arms work on the items on the bench you have increased your CPU speed. but if you think of a more efficient way to work on the items you have advanced your operating system. either way you can get work done faster but in the end it is simply easier to have the largest desk (RAM) available to work on.
