Currency is a number format, not a text format.
Ctrl+Shift+$ will format a number cell as currency.
There is no currency style button. You can navigate to the format currency style option like this:Ribbon = HOME | Item = Format | Menu = Format Cells | Tab = Number | Category = Currency
As a number format, it is a number with no specific format. The other ones, like currency, Number and Accounting allow you to do things like specify decimal places or currency symbols.
The euro currency format consists of a symbol followed by the numerical value, with two decimal places separating the whole number and the cents.
Right-click on the cell or range of cells you want to change and click on cell format. From the cell format window, select a number format of currency.

You can achieve this format using the following custom number format: "$#,##0.00". This format will display the dollar sign to the left of the number and insert commas for thousands separator.

Currency style format
You format the cells to currency and then when numbers are put into them, they will automatically display as currency. to format a selected range of cells in Excel, press the Ctrl-1 key combination. This will bring up a dialog box. Click on the Number tab, then choose "Currency". Choose from a large range of symbols for the particular currency you want. The click OK.
