DDR3 operates at 1.5v, but DDR3L operates at 1.3v.
But it said that DDR3L is compatible with DDR3L.
Do we need to make any changes/initialisation for using DDR3L with DDR3.?
Thanks
Rajesh
AnswerNo. DDR3 is not backward compatible with DDR2 and DDR. e.g. DDR3 has 1.5V power, DDR2 needs 1.8V and DDR needs 2.5V power. In terms of standard motherboard slots also the notch or the key for different memory modules is at different place for the three type of memory thus preventing any accidental insertion in memory slots which can damage the memory and or the motherboard. More Information:Gateway Tech Support said their Gateway MD7820u Notebook is compatible with both.SODIMM DDR3 might have the same pins as SODIMM DDR2.

The amount of RAM that is factory installed in a MacBook depends on the model of MacBook. In the latest models (May 2013), the 11 and 13-inch MacBook Airs have 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3L memory factory-installed, and the 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pros 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory, all four models being configurable to 8GB. The 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pros with retina display, however, have 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3L memory factory-installed, this configurable to 16GB.

DDR3
ddr3 is a type of ram, not processor
DDR3 is better at the moment, however to make full use of DDR3 RAM you need a DDR3-compatible motherboard as well as a multi-core processor.

It is not very noticeable if you upgrade your memory on your computer.
dimm (ddr3)
DDR3 uses lower voltage
ddr3 is a type of ram you would find on the motherboard of a computer. only motherboards that are manufactured for ddr3 ram will hold ddr3 ram.
