Data can be transposed in Excel, so that the data that was in a row will go into a column and data that was in a column will go into a row. There is a TRANSPOSE function or you can copy your data and then use Paste Special and pick the Transpose option.

In excel you should reserve a row for what headings?

You can put headings in a cells on a row for the values in each column that a cell is above. That way you can easily identify what the values are referring to. So in a row you could have headings like Income, Expenses, Balance, Sales, Profits, Tax and so on, depending on what your spreadsheet is actually about. You could also have a major heading for the entire spreadsheet in a row.

What is the proper way to set up a data table?

For Excel, it depends on the kind of table you are setting up. You can have a one-input or a two-input table. For a one input you put a set of figures either in a column or a row. You then need a formula for the table to work off. That is put at the top of the empty column that you want data to go into, or the start of the empty row that you want to put data into. Select your formula, the row/column of figures and the blank row/column where data is going to go. You then start the Data Table option. You will be asked for a row input and a column input. If you have your figures in a column, then you put a cell reference into the column input that is in the formula. If they are in a row, then you use the row input. The data fills in then. For a two-input, you will have data in a row and data in a column and a formula in the cell which is above the column and at the start of the row, or the top left cell in the table. You select the row and column with the existing data and the area you want the data to go into. Pick your row and colmn inputs based on the cells in the main formula. Your table will then fill in.

What column shows the sum as each new line of data is entered?

The sum total will not appear by default, unless you add the formula for it. If you are adding data just down 1 column, it is a good idea to place your sum formula at the top of the next column. That way you are not always moving your formula from row to row when you add new data to the column.

How do you widen the cells on Microsoft Excel?

What you do is widen the column, as an individual cell cannot be widened by itself. There are a few ways of widening a column. The simplest is to the the cursor between the column headings at the top of the worksheet with the column you want to widen being on the left. So if you wanted to widen Column A, go to where A and B are at the top of their columns and put the cursor in between the headings. If you do it correctly the cursor will change to having two arrows, one pointing left and one right, coming off a line in between them. Then press and hold the mouse button and drag to the right and column A will widen. Another way is having put the cursor in that position, to do a double click on the mouse. If there is any text in a cell in that column that is wider than the cell, the column will adjust to that width. the third way is to go to the Format Menu and pick Column and then Width.

Can a multiplication chart be used to find division facts?

Yes, it can. You would find the divisor in the left-most column and then follow that row over to the dividend. Once you find the dividend, you can trace that colummn up to find out the quotient. For example: In the problem 72 divided by 9 equals what, you would find the 9 in the left column and trace 9's row over to 72. Then you follow the column that you find the 72 in up to find the answer, which will be 8. You can also find the answer the other way. Look for the 9 in the top row and trace its column down to the 72. Once you've found the 72, trace its row to the left-most column to find the answer.
