your CD does not have the ability to read cdrs or it has a copyright issue
another possiblity is that the CD-R was not finalized when copied. By finalizing a CD, it in effect closes the CD so that a player knows when the info stops. since a CD player scans a CD upon insertion, it looks for the beginning and ending to know where to begin playing and stop playing. if not finalized, it reads it as one long continuous file and won't play it.
