If the device belongs to you and the PII is information of friends, family, or other non-work associates, your should notify them. If the PII is only about you or your family, you have notified the correct person when you notice the loss and tell your family.

Every mobile device has a unique code. A sniffer is a device that seeks out that code to find a lost mobile device. The advantage is that it helps to find lost devices. The disadvantages include cost and size.
To protect private information on a lost or stolen mobile device, enable remote wipe capabilities, which allow you to erase all data on the device from a distance. Additionally, use strong passwords or biometric authentication to secure the device, making it more difficult for unauthorized users to access your information.
