An Operating System Software (OS) is the name given to programs that cooridate all the activities among computer devices. The OS contains instuctions that allow the user to run application software.
Computer software - is another name for computer programs, Computer programs can be as simple as displaying a letter on a screen, when it's pressed on the keyboard - to a complete operating system (such as Windows or Linux). Operating systems are usually loaded at the factory when the computer is manufactured.

Software or "programs" are a long list of instructions that "tells" the computer or "hardware" what to do. Without software, computers are useless. Systems software is software that controls a computer. Applications is software that a user uses to carry out a task, like a word processor. Systems software enables applications to use the hardware, organises files, manages memory and many other activities that keep a computer working or operating, hence the name operating systems.
