On my Acer 5100 laptop I switch it on and the screen stays black Anyone Help?

This could be due to more than one reason.

Possibility 1:

Your brightness may have been accidently turned down.

To fix this:

1. Look at your keyboard. There should be a key labelled "fn". There should also be two keys with blue images of a sun on them, one shaded/dark sun and an empty/bright sun. Usually on the directional arrow keys
2. Press and hold "fn" and press the empty/bright sun

Possibility 2:

The back-light on your screen may have been accidently turned off.

To fix this:

1. Look for the "fn" key again. There should also be a key with the blue image of two boxes with a triangle between them, one box is shaded, the other has a star/snowflake in it
2. Hold "fn" and press the key. If your back-light was off, it will now turn on again

Possibility 3:

There could be a startup software error causing the laptop to forget to turn the screen on

To fix this:

1. Shut down. Unplug your laptop. Remove the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for around 40 seconds
3. Put the battery back in, turn on

Possibility 4:

Your motherboard could be fried or cooked. This is caused by intense gaming and lack of cool air circulation. If you plan to game often on your laptop, you should ideally have a cooling unit to support the built-in fans.

To fix this:

1. The only option, if it's the motherboard, is to get the motherboard replaced by a technician

Possibility 5:

Your back-light may have been damaged. This can happen due to excessive heat (caused by heavy gaming), by being dropped accidently or simply wearing them out by keeping the laptop on 24/7.

To fix this:

1. If this is the case, the only option is to get the screen or back-light replaced or repaired by a technician
