Open authentication requires a password. Pre-shared keys do not require a password.

There are many types of authentications can be used in access wireless network. mainly 3 types are used: User only Authentication, Device Only Authentication, User+Device Authentication. They are self explanatory.
Setting up your router's wireless security is the best way to prevent other people from using your wireless Internet connection. Your Linksys router supports three (3) of the most commonly used wireless security types: WEP, WPA and WPA2 Personal. WEP is out dated. Try the using WPA and WPA2 wireless security setting types
Open system authentication (default).
L2TP is a tunneling protocol for an IP network. L2 data is transmitted over the network but has no encryption or authentication abilities. This type of protocol is usually paired with IPSec to provide encryption and authentication.
I think one is database server authentication, the other is operating system level authentication (could be at the network level).
An open network is typically referred to as a "public network." This type of network allows unrestricted access to users without requiring authentication or credentials. Examples include Wi-Fi networks in cafes, airports, and libraries, where anyone can connect without needing a password. While convenient, open networks can pose security risks, as they may expose users to potential cyber threats.

EAP, or Extensible Authentication Protocol, is a network authentication framework commonly used in wireless networks and point-to-point connections. It provides a method for devices to authenticate to a network using various authentication methods, such as passwords, digital certificates, or one-time passwords. EAP supports multiple authentication mechanisms, making it versatile for securing different types of network access, particularly in enterprise environments. Its flexibility and security features are key to enabling secure network communications.
