An IDE Drive is not the same as a SATA drive, for starters.
If you want your optical drive to be the master on an IDE channel you can jumper it to make it such. The second drive on the IDE channel must then be jumpered as a slave. If the optical drive is the only drive on the channel then it ought to be jumpered as the master.
Alternatively, you may be able to set both drives to "Cable Select" and let the cable position determine the priority. This presumes that your ribbon cable is of a newer design and supports this option.
Yes. But your computer needs to be properly configured for a SATA optical drive. Also, a SATA drive is better than a IDE drive.
no, sata drives transfer all of the data through the sata cable
SATA, or serial advanced technology attachment, connects the motherboard to hard drives and optical drives. This cable is inserted into the SATA slot on the motherboard.
The most common connection used by optical drives is the SATA (Serial ATA) interface. SATA has largely replaced the older IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) connections due to its faster data transfer rates and improved performance. Most modern optical drives, including CD, DVD, and Blu-ray drives, utilize the SATA connection for seamless integration with computers and other devices.
You cannot master / slave a sata drive. These drives are single channel only.On the motherboard, you will see X amount of connectors. Therefore (2) connectors, is an extra 2 sata drives. Both being masters.
No Master Slave designation needed. SATA Drives are plug-add-play. Improve: SATA (Serial) Attached Drives improve data tansfer speeds up to 10-100 GBytes/per. eSATA are (Externally) Serial-Attached Drives and SATA-II(Sata-2) Drives transfer data @ 300GBytes/per. The next barrier of TerraByte data transfer has been developed and is already in production with a (SATA-3) designation attached
Traditionally, it has been PATA (IDE), but many newer computers are using SATA DVD drives.
molex for IDE devices and sata power connector for SATA devices
SATA hard disks are basically hard drives or optical disk drives. The prices an SATA hard disk for them vary from $50 to $200. They can be found on a variety of websites online.
Serial ATA (SATA) is a computer bus interface that connects host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives, optical drives, and solid-state drives.
SATA and IDE are operated on different buses, with different controllers. A SATA drive is not considered a "master" or a "slave"; it has a channel all to itself. If the IDE drive is by itself on the controller, it should be set as Master.
SATA (Serial ATA) drives are normal drives that use the SATA interface when connecting to a PC. A SATA cable is used to bridge the gap between the drive and the computers motherboard and a separate cable is used to provide power to the drive.USB, in a similar way to SATA, refers to an interface. It is possible to use a USB cable to connect a SATA drive to a USB port but only if you use an appropriate SATA-USB adapter. Most, if not all, external hard-drive kits, which may be sold as 'USB hard-drives', will contain a SATA drive inside a drive caddy with a USB cable connecting it to the PC. The caddy will already have the SATA-USB adapter built into it, negating the need to go and buy one yourself. Please don't try and wedge a USB cable straight into the back of a SATA drive as it will no doubt cause damage.
