Photoshop, once practiced and experienced, is a very successful tool for digital painting. It is difficult to ''paint'' with a mouse, so most serious digital artists use tablets, which act as a virtual drawing pad that attaches to your screen. I have both Photoshop and a tablet from Wacom, and I find it much easier than using a mouse. It's actually pretty fun, and just like using pen and paper. The tools within photoshop allow you to create the same details and effects as you would in real life.
Photoshop is used for photo editing, touching up images, digital painting and drawing, concept art, matte painting, and creating textures for 3d models. Photoshop 7 is probably not used for much now, I don't think anyone would still use it professionaly, it's a pretty old version.
psd is a photoshop extension and can be opened with photoshop or photoshop elements.

Adobe uses Photoshop as its flagship as it's an excellent piece of software and easily one of their best.
Photoshop 7 just like any other Photoshop, it uses .psd to save, open etc. You can save as other format too.
This depends on your question....as it is not clear enough. Photoshop documents apply to Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop uses many different file formats but the most common file is called a "PSD", which stands for Photoshop Document. There is also PSB which is an extended larger version of PSD files and it stands for Photoshop Big.

To select a specific color in Photoshop, use the Eyedropper tool to click on the color you want to select. This will set the foreground color to the selected color. You can then use this color for painting, filling, or other editing tasks in Photoshop.
