Mac runs a different operating system than widows. You will have to find window equiivilent to an excel program.
Only if you have an application on your MAC that is compatible with Excel and Word files. Most word processor programs have a way to import MS Word files and most spreadsheet programs can open MS Excel files. The best way to find out if your MAC has that capability is to try to open a file and see what happens.

You can open a mpg file with Windows Media Player. The file can also be opened in Windows Movie Maker as well. Of course, you can't open it with a Mac OS unless you convert the file to a format used by the Mac system though.
The question mark's appearance on a Mac file indicates that the Mac is unable to locate the System software that it needs to open that file.
