There is no function called TOTAL in Excel. You can get totals using several functions, most commonly the SUM function. There is a function called SUBTOTAL which allows you to do different types of standard calculations, including getting totals, averages, highest numbers, lowest numbers and some other things.

You can calculate quantity in Excel with the SUM function.
The FV function.
The SUMIF function.
It depends on what you are trying to calculate, like interest on investments or loans for example. The INTRATE function and the RATE function can be used. There are other specialised financial functions too.

The SUM function would be used to total up the figures for the budget, but other functions might be used too during the process.

The Average function. For example, to get the mean of the cells from A2 to A15, you would use it this way: =AVERAGE(A2:A15)
