Some MMC Cards are interchangeable with SD Cards but since that's an issue which was not asked about, I won't go into any of those specifics.

As far as "Types" of SD Cards, currently there are only 3 types:

1) SD

2) SDHC (High Capacity)

3) SDXC (Extended Capacity)

Now, there are 3 SIZES or Physical Variations of SD Cards and each one can be any of the above Capacity types.

1) Standard SD

2) MiniSD

3) MicroSD (Formerly TransFlash AKA TF)

So, there are a total of 9 possible SD Cards to choose from (not withstanding the many memory capacities, transfer speeds, and/or special features):

a) SD

b) SDHC

c) SDXC

d) MiniSD

e) MiniSDHC

f) MiniSDXC

g) MicroSD

h) MicroSDHC

i) MicroSDXC

SPECIAL FEATURE SD CARDS:

SD-Plus: SD Card with USB Interface

Eye-Fi: SD Card with WiFi Upload Capabilities

Cap. Display: Display on SD Card which shows remaining space on card
