LID:-
The most delicate part of a laptop is its lid where the display, microphone and the webcam fits. Make sure that you do not handle the laptop with its lid. While opening the lid make sure that you do not put pressure on the screen. The webcam usually sits on the middle of upper part of the lid. Try not opening the lid by placing your finger anywhere near the webcam.
KEYBOARD:-
Avoid eating and drinking while working on the laptop. The food particles or the liquid particles may enter into the circuitry through the keyboard keys and hence damage the motherboard or the keyboard. MIND THAT Laptop repairing is not cost efficient.
HEAT VENTS:-
Make sure while operating the laptop on the quilt the heat vents do not get blocked. Blocking of heat vents can lead to over heating of the motherboard, hence leading to damage beyond repair. After 2-3 years of operation the heat vents may have dust stuck to it, which will further prevent the proper exhaustion of heat.
While in the bag, do not toss or throw the bag. It may lead to the breakage of the chasis or hard-disk failure. Invest in good quality bag with good padding to prevent the shocks to reach the laptop.
A laptop battery can be charged while using it, but it would not be likely to become overcharged when the laptop is in use, unless the laptop goes into a sleep or dormant state.
An extra security precaution that one should take while using a laptop is to make it password protected. If the laptop is connected to the internet then antivirus, malware and spyware software programs are highly recommended. Deleting one's browsing history will also help prevent the invasion of privacy.

Never work on a circuit while the power supply is on.
Dont wait until the battery is full. If you notice that laptop is charged 94-97%, disconnect the charger. If the laptop is charged after 100%, the battery will be drained and the power of battery reduces. * Place soft cloth on keyboard after usage. * Touch pad of the Mouse should be handled smoothly. * Coming to display, its better to use screen guard, so that your eyes wont be disturbed.
Maybe you need to check the settings for the laptop to see wether you have set the volume to 0 as this is very likely to have happened while you were using your laptop. thanks
