What are the advantages and disadvantages of laser printers?

Advantages: Prints really fast, shiny (beautiful) colors.

Disadvantages: Runs out of ink quite easily, ink is expensive.

Advantages

• Colour printing is possible
• Print quality is good
• Noiseless
• Printing speed is high
• Most models are relatively light weight and compact so they don't take up too much space on the desk

Disadvantages

• Not be the printer of choice for everyone, Due to the cost of ink, running an inkjet printer over time is a more expensive than a laser printer.
• Prints emerge from the printer slightly wet and may need time to dry.
• Printing is slower and therefore inkjets aren't designed for high volume printing

Laser printers have the followed advantages and disadvantages in comparison to common ink jet printers.

Disadvantages..

1) They are much more expensive in general then an ink jet, usually only black and white unless you spend even more money for a color laserjet.

2) They generally need more power, generate more heat and have much more expensive toner (ink) packs then inkjet printers.

Advantages.

1) The long term cost of operation is cheaper for laserjets. They may have expensive toner packs but they last for hundreds if not thousands of prints before going bad. Inkjet packs last maybe a few hundred and also dry out if not used. Laserjet packs never dry out because toner is powder, not ink.

2) Laserjets generally produce a finer text and graphical print then inkjet, usually have a better DPI and don't have to worry about streaking or smudging ink while it dries because the laserjet automatically dries it's ink during printing.
