HyperTerminalMinicom
Its not band rate but its baud rate and it should be 9600 in the terminal emulation software to work with cisco devices.
terminal emulation
If you have to do any kind of server maintenance (especially remote) then yes terminal emulation software is very important. I use linux and often drop into a terminal to do certain tasks that I find annoying or slow from a GUI.
SSH (Secure Shell) and Telnet
The two programs can be used to accomplish terminal emulation for configuring a router from a PC. The first program is known as Syntax Processor and the second is known as Shell Commands. Both programs take input from the user and produce output. The first program can be used to input the desired settings for the router and the second program can be used to produce output that will be used to configure the router.
Proper console cable Terminal emulation software
The default speed is 9600.
9600 bps is the default for most platforms.
Network Virtual Terminal, is a software version of a physical terminal and allows a user to log on to a remote host .So the application created emulation of terminal at the remote host .Users computer talks to the software terminal which in turn talks to the host & vice verse .Remote host believes it is communication with one of its own terminals and allow you to log on
The Internet, Peer-to-Peer (Point-to-Point) Communications, and Terminal Emulation.
To test COM ports, you need a computer with a functioning serial port or a USB-to-serial adapter, appropriate software for communication (like terminal emulation software), and a loopback connector or a serial device to connect to the port. Additionally, you may require a null modem cable if you are testing communication between two devices. Ensure that the correct COM port settings (baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control) are configured in the software.
