What are the functions of the worksheet that consists of two components?

The components of the Microsoft Excel window are an active cell, column headings, a formula bar, a name box, the mouse pointer, row headings, sheet tabs, a task pane, tab scrolling buttons and toolbars. The function of the task pane is that it displays a list of commonly used tasks and the tab scrolling buttons are used to move between worksheets in the workbook.

All functions have a name and are followed by a pair of brackets. That is all that some have. Most require that you have something inside the brackets in order for them to work. Usually these are cell references or numbers or some other kind of data. What is inside the brackets are known as arguments. Some people will tell you that it must also start with an equals sign, but that is not technically true. An equals sign at the start is not part of a function. Formulas in Excel must start with an equals sign. For a function to work it has to be part of a formula. If it is by itself as the formula, it will be immediately preceded by the equals sign, telling Excel that it is a formula, as in the first example.

=SUM(A2:A10)


In the second example the function is one part of the formula but it does not have an equals sign before it, although the formula itself must start with one.

=10 + MAX(B3:B20)

In the third there is more than one function and the first has the equals sign before it as it starts the formula, but the second one doesn't.

=MAX(C2:C15) - MIN(C2:C15)
