this is actually incorrect. IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS HAS NO KNOWN CAUSE

you CANNOT get it from 'bending over too much'

or 'carrying a heavy bag' you will get it regardless.

other forms of scoliosis however have known causes

yes it happens more in girls than boys, 2% of healthy boys will get scoliosis

where as the percentge of girls is much much higher

when i say healthy boys, i mean boys who have no health problems / disabilities

scoliosis seems to go hand in hand with heart conditions

other muscular diseases such as muscular distrophy / ostrophy etc.

people often perk up at that when i say 'health problems'

note, this does not include any mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety.

mostly just heart and muscle conditions.

(although scoliosis can cause other mental conditions to arise, sadly)

Scoliosis is a side-to-side curvature of the spine. Neuromuscular scoliosis is due to loss of control of the nerves or muscles which support the spine. The most common causes of this type of scoliosis are cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

Can scoliosis be transmitted?

No, scoliosis is not contagious. The majority of scoliosis is termed idiopathic, which means that the medical community does not know what causes it. The majority of scoliosis in adolescents is idiopathic. There are congenital causes of scoliosis which often cause patients to have large curves at a very young age due to malformed vertebrae. These scolioses can be associated with spinal cord abnormalities as well as heart and kidney problems. Neuromuscular scoliosis occurs in patients who have abnormal nerve and/or spinal cord function such as in cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or spinal cord injury. Adult scoliosis can be from an adolescent scoliosis, or it can be what is termed a degenerative scoliosis. Scoloiosis is viewed (in general) as a lateral curvature of the spine with an axial twist that causes a distortion of the ribs. Majority of the cases scoliosis is called idiopathic, which means that the medical community does not know what causes it. There have been recent studies that suggest that there is a genetic component to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Neuromuscular scoliosis occurs as a result of abnormalities in nerve function which control the trunk musculature, such as spina bifida and cerebral palsy.

How is science related to scoliosis?

Science is integral to understanding scoliosis, a condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine. Research in fields such as genetics, biomechanics, and radiology helps identify the causes, risk factors, and progression of scoliosis. Scientific studies also inform treatment options, including bracing and surgical interventions, by evaluating their effectiveness and outcomes. Overall, science provides the foundation for improving diagnosis, management, and patient care related to scoliosis.

What causes rapid onset of adult scoliosis?
