The ROM Chip
Flash Memory
The IC chip on Epson ink cartridges performs a variety of important functions. It identifies the cartridge model and ink color and communicates that information to the printer to confirm that the correct cartridge has been installed. It allows for the safe removal of ink cartridges, the chip records data such as installs and head cleans - it tells the printer what cartridge it is and estimated ink level. Ensures the wrong ink cartridge (i.e. for another printer) is not used, which could damage the printer.

A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag contains a radio antenna and a tiny chip. The chip stores data, while the antenna enables communication with RFID readers by transmitting and receiving radio signals. These tags are commonly used for tracking and identification purposes in various applications, such as inventory management and access control.

Printer firmware is a program inside a printer, that allows it to receive data from a computer and so print on paper.
A printer buffer is a temporary storage area in a computer or printer that holds data before it is sent to the printer for processing. This allows the computer to continue operating and sending additional print jobs without waiting for the printer to finish the current job. By managing the flow of data, a printer buffer helps improve printing efficiency and reduces the risk of data loss or bottlenecks in communication.
