Well there are many devices which share the logical responsibility of running a total computer but I believe the device you're thinking of or looking for would be the CPU. Or Central processing unit.

This is the "brain" of the CPU that performs instructions and mathematical calculations. When you launch a program, it's running on shared cycles of a CPU.
