I had this problem as well- and here is what I do as it happens pretty much everytime I use it now- no matter how I close out of the application.
Windows Movie Maker is a video editing application.
Windows Movie Maker is a video creating/editing program that is a component of Microsoft Windows.
I am going to assume you are getting an error message something like this:Another user is running Windows Movie Maker on this computer. Please close the other session of Windows Movie Maker before starting Windows Movie Maker again. If you know for sure that another user is not running the application or another session is not in progress, here's what you do to ensure the program (and all running instances) is closed:> Click Ctrl + Alt + Del> Click on Start Task Manager> If you see Windows Movie Maker in the window that opens, click End Task> If you don't see it in that window, open the Processes tab> Find the instance(s) of WMM in the list (look for MOVIEMK.exe)> Click End ProcessThat is how you close any applications running in the background (or other instances of programs). And too, just to be on the safe side, I suggest rebooting, doing a defrag and disk cleanup before opening Windows Movie Maker again.
Download the program again. This time in the language you need.

There have been some problems with programs running on Xp with Sp3. You might want to check out the problem in Microsoft Windows Knowledge Base for ideas on how to get the program up and running again.
Sometimes an 'instance' of Movie Maker may be running behind Windows. The way to close any instances, is by doing the following:> Click on Ctrl+Alt+Delete (at the same time) to bring up the Task Manager> Click on Start Task Manager> In the window that opens, close any Windows Movie Maker applications you see(highlight the program and choose End Task)> Now, click on the Processes tab> If you see MOVIEMK.exe anywhere in the list, click on it and choose End ProcessThis will close all instances of the Windows Movie Maker program that may be running in the background. Now you can open Movie Maker again. This might need to be done on occasions when you receive a message saying Windows Movie Maker is already in use by another user.
If you are trying to locate the Windows Movie Maker program on your computer... > Click Start, All Programs, Windows Movie Maker (icon) from list If Movie Maker is not in your program list... > Click Start, and in Start Search bar (or Run Command) type: MOVIEMK.exe The program should appear in the list that is generated.

Import the files to your computer from the CD, then import them into the Windows Movie Maker Program.
If you have a PC (personal computer) and not a MAC, you already have Windows Movie Maker on it. If you have Windows 7 as your OS (operating system), then you have Windows Live Movie Maker, an Essential product. To find the version of Movie Maker you have, and to open the program, click on the Start Orb and type Windows Movie Maker in the Search bar. The program icon should appear in the list that is generated. Click on the icon to open your Movie Maker.
