If the Mac has Word installed it can read a Word .doc file - although there are variations between different versions of Word which may cause problems. Even without Word the Mac's TextEdit application can read basic .doc files. There are free applications, such as Open Office (or Neo Office), which provides a high level of compatibility with Word. If the document is only to be read, and not edited on the Mac, then saving it as a .pdf will ensure that the Mac sees the document, with all its formatting, as intended.
if you just save something like a word document and you just click save it wont save the word document in the location you want to save it to where as if you click save as you choose a specific location to save a document.
Open Office will read Word files without any problems ! I used MS word for years before I encountered OpenOffice. Once I started using the new software, it read every document saved in MS office format !Open office can save documents either as open document format (the default) or as MS word if you choose it from the drop-down menu when you save it !
Open it with word 2007 and then save it from Save as command
You can save your Microsoft works document in "saved as" to be a Microsoft word document. All you do is have to go to "File" the go to "Save As" then go to "Save as type" and then click the down arrow next to the "Save as type" and click "word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)" or click "word 2007 Document (*.docx). This should work. I would save it as the word 97-2003 Document (*doc). Hope this helps, Waveracer200
First you need to give it a filename, if you start writing and want to take a break, when you only click Save.
Use the Save As option. Within it you will find a lot of options to save document in. Amongst them will be a number of options to save your document as text.
Can I change a "read only" file from Adobe to a word document?
File - save as - name it - save
Alt + F click save as then browse where drive or disk you wanted to save the document.
Ctrl - S will save a Word document. Shift - F12 will also do a save. F12 will do a Save As.
If the machine you send it to is using a newer version of Word than was used in the original document, the newer version will be able to read the older version. If, however, you are sending the document to a machine with an older version of Word, you will want to first save that document in the version of the machine that will be reading it. Choose "save as" instead of "save." From the drop-down menu below the file name, choose the version of Word that matches the destination machine. You can also use an online viewer like ajaxdocumentviewer.com and link your word document. So anyone without even word version can then view it from there.
Find-and-replace.
