It allows you to construct a date from 3 different numbers representing a year, a month and a day. For example, this will create the date for the 19th of April 2001:=DATE(2001,4,19)If you want to get the same date over the course of a number of years, you could use the ROW function, which gives you the number of the current row, to help generate different years. Say you want to get the 15th of March for all years from 2001 to 2015. Starting with a cell in row 1, you could use the ROW function's result and add 2000 to it to get 2001. Copying it down would get 2002, 2003 etc. The function in the first row would be:
=DATE( ROW() + 2000, 3, 15 )
