Scoliosis is a 3 dimensional spine deformity where individual vertebral bodies are rotated in addition to side to side curve. S shaped scoliosis is commonly used term when there are two 'C' shaped side to side curves in the spine connected to each other. Usually one of the curves is 'structural' or primary curve and the other one 'compensatory' or secondary curve though both can be structural. The compensatory curve is formed so as to keep the head in center over the pelvis by compensating the curvature of primary curve. 'S' shape can be observed clinically looking from the back but is more obvious on spine Xray.

The terminology fairly prominent is not a correct clinical description but broadly refers to the rotational element of the vertebral body which leads to rotation of the rib cage giving rib hump observed from the back as ribs are attached to vertebrae in chest (thoracic) region. 'Fairly prominent' refers to this prominence of rib hump.
