Opacity is the transparency of your layer that is featured. It is useful for safe editing in Photoshop, opacity is used to 'dim down' a certain object and is commonly used in masking to see layers behind the layer that uses opacity.
Higher opacity will make the layer more opaque.
Lower opacity will make the layer more transparent.
