That depends on the resistor, the resistors that are color coded come with either 4, 5 or 6 bands.

On resistors with 4 bands, the 3'rd band is the multiplier.

F.ex if we have a Resistor colored brown:red:orange it would mean 1 : 2 : 3 which translates to (10+2)*10^3, or 12*1000 = 12k Ohm

On resistors with 5 or 6 bands, the 3'rd band is just another digit

For examle a 5-band resistor starting with brown|red|orange|yellow would mean

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 which translates to (100+20+3) * 10^4 or 123*10000 = 1,23M Ohm

What do the colours on resistor mean?

The colored bands on a resistor represent the resistor value and tolerance. The first two bands indicate the significant digits of the resistance value, the third band represents the multiplier, and the fourth band (if present) indicates the tolerance of the resistor. By decoding these colors, you can determine the resistance value of the resistor.

What does r mean in a resistor?

R stands for the resistance.

What is the resistor color code and how is it used to identify and select resistors?

The resistor color code use to help to identify the resistance of the resistor. There are four color in the resistor that help to identify the resistance of the resistor. The first and second color represent the numerical value of the resistor. The third color represent the multiplier. The four color represent the tolerance.

What does it mean if a resistor is marked 4k2?

What are the three methods to determine the value of a resistor?

Basically you can either read the resistance that is printed on the resistor (with a special color code, which you would have to learn), or you can use Ohm's Law, by measuring a voltage through the resistor and the corresponding current. I am not aware of any third method.

How do you calculate resistor colour code?

To calculate a resistor's value using its color code, first identify the colors of the three or four bands on the resistor. Each color corresponds to a specific number (or multiplier for the third band) based on a standard color code chart. For a four-band resistor, the first two bands represent significant digits, the third band is a multiplier (10 raised to the power of the digit), and the fourth band indicates tolerance. Multiply the first two digits by the value of the third band to find the resistance in ohms.

What do the bands on resistors mean?

in simple terms, band represent numbers, ex:- 10K resistor have different colour code and that is difference from 5k resistor. if you type in google 'resistor colour code' that will describe how to calculate a resistor value. thanks

What does it mean if resistor x is steeper then resistor y?

If resistor X is steeper than resistor Y in a voltage versus current graph (I-V curve), it indicates that resistor X has a lower resistance value compared to resistor Y. The steeper slope means that for a given increase in voltage, resistor X allows a greater increase in current, following Ohm's Law (V = IR). Therefore, resistor X conducts more current than resistor Y for the same voltage applied.

What do the first three bands help determine on a resistor?

The first three bands on a resistor tell you what its resistance is. The first band is the first digit, the second band is the second digit, and the third band is the number of zeros to add. Use the resistor color code to convert... 0 Black 1 Brown 2 Red 3 Orange 4 Yellow 5 Green 6 Blue 7 Violet 8 Grey 9 White As an example, a 27000 ohm resistor would be Red - Violet - Orange. If the third band is Silver, the multiplier is 0.1 and, if the third band is Gold, the multiplier is 0.01. For example, a 0.39 ohm resistor would be Orange - Gray - Gold.
