limits signal degradation
Cancels the noise.
It reduces the opportunity for the signals on one pair to be transferred accidentally to a different pair.
Cat-5 has 4 pairs and 8 wires
Cat-5 has 4 pairs and 8 wires
Cat 5, Cat 5e
4 pairs of wires, or 8 wires total
An RJ45 connector has 8 conductors. it has the naming convention of 8P8C (8positions 8conductors).
Ethernet network traffic on a cat 5 cable only uses 4 wires of the 8 in the cable. Telephone voice transmission only uses 2 wires. Therefore, you can take any 2 of the unused network wires (pins 4 or 5, 7 or 8) and use it for voice. You would then have both data and voice transmission in the same cable.
To wire a Cat 5 cable for network connectivity, follow these steps: Strip the outer insulation of the cable to expose the inner wires. Untwist the pairs of wires and arrange them according to the T568A or T568B wiring standard. Trim the wires to the appropriate length and insert them into the RJ45 connector. Crimp the connector onto the wires using a crimping tool. Test the cable to ensure it is properly wired and functioning.
In Cat 5 cable based on fast ethernet (100 mbsp) 4 are used to Send and Receive. The other 4 wires are unused. All 8 wires are used for gigabit communications.
There are four wire pairs. White/Blue - Blue, White/Orange - Orange, White/Green - Green, and White/Brown - Brown. Only two pairs are used in Cat5 networks.
To terminate a Cat 5 cable properly, you will need to strip the outer jacket, separate and arrange the individual wires according to the T568A or T568B wiring standard, trim the excess wire length, and insert the wires into a modular connector. Finally, use a crimping tool to secure the wires in place.
