GIF is such a format that supports animation and transparency. See the related question for more details on the GIF format and some other formats that support one of these features.
BMP (Bitmap) format does not support animation. It is a static image format that stores a single frame of an image without any capability for movement or transitions. For animated images, formats such as GIF or APNG are typically used, which can contain multiple frames to create the illusion of motion.
PNG and GIFF
Convert it to a format that does not support transparency (for example jpeg) or use a tool to edit the transparent pixel value.
It is an image file, not video. GIF file format support more pictures in one file to create and view it as short animation, but this not a video.
Only GIF images allow animation. There is APNG format, but in some browsers it displays it as a static image.
A flattened image has only one layer. After the image is flattened, it has the same appearance it had before. The difference is that all of the image contents are in a single layer without transparency. If there are any areas which are transparent through all of the layers of the original image, the background color is visible. By flattening an image we introduce significant changes to the structure of the image. It is normally only necessary when you would like to save an image in a format which does not support levels or transparency (an alpha channel).
To make images transparent in IrfanView, first, open your image and ensure it's in a format that supports transparency, like PNG. Then, go to "Image" in the menu, select "Palette" and choose "Change color to transparent." Click on the color in your image that you want to make transparent, and adjust the "Transparency" level as needed. Finally, save the image in a format that supports transparency to retain the effect.
GIF image is a Graphics Interchangable Format. The interchangeable part of it's name means you can have a series of images "storyboard" shown as a mini movie in a .GIF image file.
.Gif is a file format itself. Gif files are normally short animations or images with short 5 second effects. Other common image files are: .Jpg and .Png
Yes, Adobe Photoshop does support GIF images. GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a popular image format that supports both static images and animations. In Photoshop, you can open and edit GIF files just like any other image format. You can also create and edit GIF animations using Photoshop's animation tools. Thanks!
A recent file format that supports continuous tones and transparency is the PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. Developed in the mid-1990s, PNG uses lossless compression and allows for variable transparency levels through an alpha channel, making it ideal for web graphics and images requiring high quality without artifacts. It has largely replaced GIF for many applications due to its broader color support and ability to handle transparency effectively.
Photoshop has ties with other Adobe software for media editing, animation, and authoring. The .PSD (Photoshop Document), Photoshop's native format, stores an image with support for most imaging options available in Photoshop. These include layers with masks, color spaces, ICC profiles, transparency, text, alpha channels and spot colors, clipping paths, and duotone settings. This is in contrast to many other file formats (e.g. .EPS or .GIF) that restrict content to provide streamlined, predictable functionality.
