The three common protocols to obtain email from a server are: POP, IMAP, and Microsoft Exchange.
POP3 and IMAP4
Email messages and the email protocols by definition are digital. Text is sent as digital characters. Video and audio attachments are encoded digitally.
Web-based email is a user service, providing a simple interface to use different email sending/receiving protocols, which POP3 is.
One of the protocols used is SNMP (simple networking management protocols). Note that this is not the only option.
You cannot just retreive the email database. It is the private property of the Gmail users. Moreover it is guarded by the protocols of Gmail.
Most email clients use one of three protocols to receive an email message. They are SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), POP (Post Office Protocol), or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol).
Here are some very important protocols related to email marketing;IMAP(Internet Message Access Protocol) - is server based protocol - send and receiving but email remains on the server and is not downloaded to your computer unless u ask.POP3(Post office protocol) is a receiving protocol, not for sending.SMTP(Simple mail transfer Protocol) is a send protocol not for receivingHTML is a document formatting protocol typically used in web pages - most email protocols r html aware but it in itself is not a send protocol.
There are more than 3 protocols at the application layer. Three well-known protocols are: HTTP - web page traffic FTP - file transfer traffic SMTP - email transfer

An email message is created using a mail client program. This program then sends the message to a server. The server then forwards the message to the recipient's email server, where the message is then supplied to the recipient's email client. It's delivered using a server architectureBy L.S.
The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is used to coordinate the storage and transfer of email between users on a network. Other internet protocols include HTTP and FTP.
