Hi, I used BitDefender AV to detect the trojan. It wasn't able to remove it, so I traced the path and deleted the file in safe mode. It was hiding under the same name as windows indexing service, only in CAPS. Later, I ran TDS-3 anti-trojan scanner which removed the remains of the bugger.

It's a misleading security application that uses false scan results and fake security alerts to scare the user of the compromised computer. Remove Green AV as soon as possible.
Check the security response section of Symantec's Norton AV website.

Trojan.avalert is a Trojan Horse program that displays fake Windows and antivirus security messages plus links to websites that are corrupted. From what I have read from the Norton Security Community forums, Norton cannot remove Trojan.avalert.
It depends if the program comes from a reliable vendor if they do then NO however free AV programs are not a refined as paid programs so they may produce false positives more often. But a some free anti-virus programs are actually a virus/trojan and they will fake viruses and try to get you to pay to remove them. and steal your credit card number if you want some free good reliable anti-virus programs i would recommend: Avira, Avast, Trendmicro, IObit, AVG, and Malwarebytes
