When a program is first installed on your computer, all the files are nice and organised. But as the program is used, these files start to get accessed by Windows. The files are then put back onto the disk in not the same orderly spot they came from. Eventually they are scattered all over the hard drive. This is called fragmentation. A fragmented hard drive is slower because Windows has to go searching for these fragmented files, thus slowing the system down. Running the defrag tool once every two months or so, organises all these files once again.
They are called FRAGMENTED files

Disk Defragmentation
Go to the All Programs in the My computer section or toolbar then click on Accessories then System Tools then click on Disk Defragmenter. THis program is in every computer like Windows and Mac. This program will shrink files for more file capacity and remove fragmented files.
A fragmented disk contains temporary Internet files and unused program files that need to be deleted.YOLO
Disk Derangement is a tool that rearranges the data on your hard disk and reunites fragmented files so your computer can run more efficiently.
Ubuntu uses the ext4 file journaling system, which doesn't get fragmented.
No diskdefragmenter cannot be used to format a partion. It is used to make all the files to get fragmented. Formatting of partition can be done by using disk management option in the computer management
A disk with data scattered throughout it (as a result of erasing and adding data in the computer) is referred to as being fragmented.

To check for fragmented files, you can use built-in tools like the Disk Defragmenter on Windows or the Optimize Drives utility, which analyzes fragmentation levels and provides a report. On macOS, you can use the built-in Disk Utility to check the health of the disk, although macOS typically manages fragmentation automatically. Additionally, third-party disk management software can provide detailed analyses of file fragmentation. Regular monitoring and defragmentation can help maintain optimal system performance.
