first duplicate layer and apply soft light effect from blending options(layers palette-text box where writes Normal,click on arrow and choose Soft Light with top layer selected) if you want to soften edges,duplicate top layer if you want more softness and check if Soft Light is applied on it

Do you mean Photoshop 7.0? It may work on vista, you may have to right click the setup.exe and run as admin or (again right click the setup file (.exe)) and go to, Properties >> Compatibility tab and choose XP Compatible. Hope this helps!
