If you are starting and new to Linux try Zorin OS.
If you are experienced and know more about and how to use Linux the get Ubuntu.
Zorin OS was created on 2009-07-01.
Zorin OS is an operating system like windows 7, vista, etc. and it is part of Linux which is open source meaning that it is free.Windows 7 is not free but can do more than Zorin OS can.
In terminal: sudo apt clean
It should work fine as long as it is connected to the internet threw wire. If it is wireless then I don't know if Zorin os will have the driver for it. When Zorin does upgrades it downloads drivers and will apply them.
There aren't any Linux distributions specifically for Chromebooks. Some distros that have a GUI similar to macOS are: elementary OS pearOS Zorin OS (only in Pro version) Ubuntu Budgie

You could easily download Chrome for Ubuntu OS. It is available on the Chrome website as well.
