An early line printer that used type slugs linked together in a chain as its printing mechanism. The chain spins horizontally around a set of hammers. When the desired character is in front of the selected print column, the corresponding hammer hits the paper into the ribbon and onto the character in the chain.
The difference between a chain printer and a band printer is a chain printer has a chain that the characters are on and a band printer has a band for the characters.
Output - information goes out from computer to printer
The printing mechanism of a chain wheel printer is a rotating spoke wheel which features characters embossed on its circumference. Printer hammers striker the paper against the required character as the wheel rotates.
Several types of printers used an ink or carbon ribbon in the way you described. The daisy wheel printer and ball printer would spin a wheel that has the printable characters, then the wheel would strike the ribbon, leaving an imprint on the paper. The dot matrix printer used a number of pins that struck the ribbon to generate a printable character. The chain printer had several full sets of all printable characters on a long chain, and the chain spun rapidly on a track. As the appropriate printable character arrived at the proper location, a high speed solenoid driven hammer struck the chain, causing the ribbon to leave an imprint on the paper.
Advantages are really fast speed combined with good image quality. The IBM 1403 chain printer was so fast that its *output stacking bin* had to be 'motor-driven.' An "advantage" (although not in the printing OR data-center-optimization sense!) was the remarkable character of the noise these things make - once heard, never to be forgotten. As has been pointed out elsewhere on the Web, you could program the system so the printer would play music... Disadvantages: Large, heavy, noisy, requires considerable care with lubrication and maintenance, and needs fairly competent electrical power. There are few things a chain printer can do that a high-speed laser printer can't do "better" (note that it would be a very rare situation for a typical chain printer to be used on multipart originals, or in fact on anything requiring physical impact to register)

No.A line printer uses characters.A laser printer uses pixels.More informationA laser printer uses a revolving charged glass cylinder. The laser can discharge the glass at points where no ink is wanted, causing the no toner to stick onto the surface of the cylinder at those points. Then the paper is pressed against the cylinder as it revolves, transferring the toner from the cylinder to the paper. The paper is then passed over a heater to melt and fuse the toner to the paper.A line printer is also known as a chain printer where the entire character font set is built up in metal type, with one character mounted on each link of the chain. The faces of the metal characters are wetted by moving across an ink pad. Each character position on the line has a hammer. When the right character is in the proper position, the hammer fires and then the paper gets pressed against the inked typeface to get an imprint.

Laser/LED printer and Inkjet printers for a couple.
A printer.
maybe, a network printer is any printer connected via network cable
If you are writing a memo to request a printer you should be sure to state why you need the printer, how long you will need the printer for and where the printer will be located.
