There is no such thing as a LAN card. LAN stands for Local Area Network. The card which communicates with a LAN is called an "Ethernet" card. This Ethernet card/controller may be a separate card but in modern computers is more likely to be a single chip built onto the motherboard. The presence of the chip/card will be indicated by an RJ45 connector/socket on the back of the computer.
An AGP card is a graphics or display card and will allow output to a monitor. A LAN card is a Network Interface Card which allows a computer to communicate over a network, either wired or wireless.
There sometimes are "Wake on LAN" parameters that can be set in BIOS which will boot a connected computer if the LAN card receives a command.

You know what a LAN is. Its a small group of computers all hooked up together. These computers are all hooked together by wires. And its the LAN card (nic as its more commonly known) that the wire plugs into in the computer.

Network Interface Card (NIC or LAN card). This card enables PC's connectivity to existing Network. NICs are nowadays Integrated onto Motherboards or can be bought seperately in form of PCI Cards.
A LAN Card performs the function of supporting TCP or IP connections to computers and other network devices. It is a piece of hardware that is connected inside a computer to link it with other computers in a network. Thanks SolutionForTech WWW.SolutionForTech.Com
lan card is a part of the pc.
It can be checked easily. You can just search someones LAN card as simple as 123 like some hackers can easily find it in a few seconds. Addition: If you need a LAN card to be checked you need to run the manufacturers diagnostics utility. This can be done after determining that the card is not working on the network (for example, by pinging the address)
Should have a LAN Card installed & configured properly on the Computer to connect it to network.
It might have something to do with Wake On Lan, this is something that can be disabled in the BIOS. try to disable Wake On Lan or WOL within bios and see if that fixes it, it so, download a bios update
