"pipeline registers" are inserted in-between pipeline stages, and are clocked synchronously. The time between each clock signal is set to be greater than the longest delay between pipeline stages, so that when the registers are clocked, the data that is written to them is the final result of the previous stage.

Internal-forwarding and register-tagging techniques are used to mitigate logic hazards in pipelined processors. Internal forwarding allows data to be routed directly from one pipeline stage to another without having to wait for it to be written back to the register file, reducing the delay caused by data dependencies. Register-tagging, on the other hand, helps track the version of data in registers, ensuring that the correct data is used when multiple instructions are in-flight. Together, these techniques enhance the efficiency of the pipeline by minimizing stall cycles and improving overall instruction throughput.
