Well, from my Master's in Math and Computing, and over 30 years of experience as a programmer, I would say nothing is the heart. You may say the CPU because it moves information around like the heart moves blood. But the real genius of von Neumann, when he came up with the von Neumann architecture, is that the CPU not only moves information around but modifies it according to that information.
