When you say a "video CD" I'm going to assume your talking about a DVD, like you might rent from the rental store.

Your Computer needs 2 things to be able to play DVD and display it on your screen.

1 - DVD CD-ROM DRive (Hardware) That's a special type of CD-ROM drive that is also designed to play DVDs.

2 - DVD Player Program/Application (Software) This is a program that will read the information on the DVD, and display it on your screen.

If you have an older computer, you may not have a DVD player built in, but can add one for about $50 if you install it yourself opr have a friend do it. It should also come with software, if not you can download free DVD software on the internet.

Answer--A new version of Windows Media Player recognizes the Video CD (VCD) format, finds the video files on the disk and plays them in order. With an older version of Windows Media Player, you have to find each of the videos files for it and then open them.

Using a newer version of Windows Media Player:

* Launch Windows Media Player.

* Insert the VCD in to the CD Drive.

* From the menu bar, select the VCD you want to play.

* If it doesn't begin playing automatically, press the Play (>) button.

* Adjust the screen size.

Using an older version of Windows Media Player:

* Launch Windows Media Player.

* Insert the VCD.

* From the menu bar, choose file>open and select the Video CD you want to play.

* From the menu bar, chosse file>open and open the MPEGAV folder.

* Select the first file and click the "Open" button. On the Player window, click the play button (>).

* Adjust the screen size.

* When WMP has played the file, open the MPEGAV folder again, open the next file and click the play button. Repeat this step until you have played the entire movie.

If your Mac has a built-in CD/DVD drive (i.e. is not a Macbook Air), then a CD may be played by inserting the disc into the drive. If iTunes is installed, it should automatically open, unless you have changed the default settings.

If you have changed the default settings, then you must open iTunes or any other media player that you use, which should then detect the CD, after which you may select the CD and choose which track to begin playback on.
