A split edit is an edit in which the audio starts before or after the picture cut. This is commonly used to ease the transition from one scene to another.

TIP Supervisor working question for Xnicola / Skullcandy88 Other Supervisors: Please do not split alternates/edit/etc. Thanks.
You click onto edit town, click on your house and then there is a button that says split household
What are the two colonies that split? Please edit your question to include more context.

You can't edit the movie (video) but you can import it and split it up for editing if you like.
You have to have online to be able to dumb asses
1) Left-click the blue words "Edit alternates" on the side of the page. 2) In the list that you'll see provided, place a check-mark to the immediate left of those alternates you wish to split. 3) After that, click the orange "split" button; or "split & merge" if appropriate.
Alternates on their own cannot be edited. If split, however, the previously alternate question can be edited as long as the question does not already exist (Supervisors can merge in this case). Therefore, there is no way to get rid of "edit alternates", as it is a feature that does not exist.
If you're editing the question, and when you hit enter, your edit matches an existing question, the system will give you the option of either merging or splitting.
A supervisor looks at the 'edit alternates' option on the blue bar while viewing the question. There should show blank boxes on each alternate. Check as many as you want and select 'split'. Be sure to batch split alternates that need to be split, and select the 'split & merge' option for alternates that need to be split from the original question but need to be merged together. (note: all alternates checked while 'split & merging' will be merged together into a question, you can't pick and choose, so be sure that all the alternates selected go together)
