With a static IP address you have to manually configure each workstation, by hand. Doing so can lead to duplication errors because you mistyped an address that is already in use. You might also get the other settings wrong, such as the default gateway, DNS servers, etc.

With DHCP you can more easily manage your address space in a network, and there will be no duplication because DHCP will not give out the same address twice. Other settings can be set once and then distributed to workstations automatically, without error.

Finally, you can save on IP addresses because the workstations will use the addresses only as long as they need them, and then return them to the pool for other to use. With static addressing that will never happen, and you might run out of addresses for your network.

How are IP addresses assigned to hosts?

Usually, in dynamic addressing models, the host obtains its IP address via DHCP - an administrator sets up a pool of available addresses in an IP range (called a scope) and gives them to clients as they ask for addresses.

How can you I make a static IP address into a dynamic one?

A static IP address means it never changes. A dynamic one means that it changes between several different IP addresses. All you need to do is set up several IP addresses and then the software to randomly select one each time you connect to the Internet.

What is ip pool?

An IP pool is a collection of IP addresses that are available for assignment to devices on a network, typically managed by a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. This pool allows for efficient allocation and management of IP addresses, ensuring that devices can connect to the network without conflicts. IP pools can be dynamic, where addresses are assigned temporarily, or static, where specific addresses are reserved for particular devices. They are essential for managing network resources, especially in environments with numerous devices.

How can this person have two IP addresses Ex xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx . But the thing is the first IP Is the same as someone else's IP?

IP addresses are either "dynamic" (shared) or "static" (assigned to you only) connection. A static connection, that is having your very own personal IP address, will most likely cost more per month than the dynamic connection.

My phone company says we are Dynamic and can not set up a static IP is this true?

It is a decision made by the ISP whether or not to allow static IP addresses. Most ISPs, in your case the phone company, do have static IP addresses available for an extra charge. Static IP addresses often require a business internet account.
