Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book is official Adobe recommendation to get started. see related link for details.
There are dozens of books available for this program. All of these books can be found on the website Amazon.com. The best book on the subject is the Photoshop for Dummies book.
Classroom in a Book is a series of hands-on software training workbooks published by Adobe Press. These books provide step-by-step lessons and practice exercises for learning various Adobe software programs, such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. The format is designed to mimic a classroom experience to help users quickly gain practical skills in using the software.

A good start is to purchase "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book" and work through it in Photoshop with the images on its enclosed DVD. If you don't have the CS5 version of Photoshop, purchase the book of the same name except replace the version number in the book name with the Photoshop version you have. Another good learning resource is watching the tutorial videos of the latest versions of Photoshop on the Adobe TV website. Some great learning resources online that have a low-priced fee attached are in the related links. Also check out instructor-led training options in your state in the Adobe Partner Finder on the Adobe website at the related link. TIP: Check out the new "Creative Cloud" on the Adobe website for info on the new subscription-based access to a huge package of many different Adobe softwares - $(49.99/mo or 29.99/mo education pricing).
There are lots of Adobe Photoshop tutorials found on YouTube. You can also search Google and it will find a lot of Adobe Photoshop tutorials. Take a look at Adobe.com's Creative Exchange for more tutorials, most of which are free and user created. Adobe has even placed some of their own tutorials there. Also, there are lots of books out there about Photoshop for learning how to use the software or for tips and tricks and even some with specific tutorials. Some of my favorites are:* 'Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book' * 'Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers' * 'Hacking Adobe Photoshop CS3' * 'Adobe Photoshop CS3 Bible' * 'Advanced Adobe Photoshop Techniques' * 'Adobe Photoshop Guru's Handbook' (a very large book with lots of valuables) * 'Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Dummies'* and of course the Adobe Photoshop manuals published by Adobe Press. I don't have the author names of these books handy, but they are pretty popular books. You can find these on places such as Amazon, or your local Books-A-Million (or other book stores also). You can find used books at places like half.com and eBay that are still in pretty good condition at a much cheaper discount.I think all of these books are available for any version of Photoshop you might have. Instead of looking for 'CS3,' look for one that says 'CS2' or 'CS' depending on what version you are working with. These books range from very beginner techniques to more advanced one; however, they are all broken down into easy-to-understand format (provided you have a basic knowledge of Photoshop, like where certain tools are located in the program) and teaches you how to use them in new and creative ways.Photoshop is a huge program with many tools and features that can be manipulated into some very specific actions. Combinations of tools create even more.More Info...if you have internet access then go on some websites for tutorial and know more about PhotoShop
Adobe Photoshop CS5 Clasrrom in a Book which is published by Adobe press. You can find direct link on my blog (left side bar) if you want. See related link below answer.
There are hundreds so I will not go through them here. Go to a forum or Adobe's help site, buy a book or, if you have Photoshop installed and running, the [F1] key will bring up the "Help" file

You should use a Apple Computer with Photoshop because the software is very Apple friendly. It;s also good to get a couple book's on the Particular version of Photoshop you have. You should know that Adobe Photoshop is that it really prefers that you use an Apple Mac computer, theirs alot of extras in the software that only work with the Apple Computer.

CorelDRAW for books and newsletters, definitely. You could certainly produce a one page newsletter in Photoshop though. Other options include Adobe Illustrator, Xara applications, Inkscape, Open office etc.
