It is normally near the right end of the Standard toolbar. When you rest the mouse pointer over it, it will say what it is. Another way is to go to the View Menu and Toolbars to see what toolbars are displayed, in case your Standard toolbar is off. There will be a tick beside it to show if it is on or not. You can also customise your toolbars from there.
The Chart Wizard is an automated feature allowing you to create a chart by going through steps including selecting the data you want to chart and the type of chart you want, amongst other things.
There is no step function in Excel. However, you can use excel to create a Step Function Chart. See related links for a video to explain the process.

A Gantt chart template can be used alongside software such as Microsoft Excel to present data and charts in the Gantt chart format. Microsoft Excel does not include the Gantt chart format by default.
You could press the F11 key which will automatically create a chart based on the default settings. You are better to start the Chart Wizard, so that you can choose what kind of chart that you want. You can click on the Insert tab or Insert menu, depending on the version of Excel you have, and start from the options that are there.

First create your data and chart in Excel. Then copy the chart and do a Paste Link with it into the Word document. Changing any values in the Excel document that are used in the chart, will also change the one in Word. So the important thing is the Paste Link.
In Excel a Gantt chart is the equivalent of a bar chart. Having put in the data you need into the spreadsheet, you then start the Chart Wizard, by either going to the Insert menu and picking the Chart option or clicking on the Chart Wizard icon on the standard toolbar. Then you can pick the bar chart and continue with the process of creating your chart with the Chart Wizard. There are various options you can pick. Which ones you use will be down to your own preferences.
