In SLI Nvidia cards if you have the slots 4 cards but you really need to look at the MOBO to see if it is a waste of time on how much the MOBO can support at once Example If the MOBO only can handle 2@16x and the board breaks it down as 1@16x and 2@8x (1x16,1x8,1x8) then the 4th board is at zero. some are 1x16,1x8,1x4,1x4 you are better off to use 2 each quality x16 cards for frame rates and use the other slots for non video items Crossfire can only handle 3 cards note the onboard chip acts as a 4th card. if I had the funds I'd run 2 GTX 590's or 6990's the same as running 4 cards in the but in 2 slots

There is no maximum number of cards you can hold, any amount can be held at one time, as long as you have cards or effects that keep adding them. However you cannot end your turn with more then seven cards in hand. So if you're holding more than that, you must discard down to seven before ending the turn.
