In Microsoft Outlook, the red category is typically used to signify high-priority items, such as urgent emails, tasks, or calendar events. Users can assign categories to organize and prioritize their communications and responsibilities more effectively. The color-coding helps quickly identify important items at a glance. Users can customize category colors and names according to their preferences.

This worked for me. I use categories and wanted to sort first by category and then by Task Subject. I have my view set to "to-do list" In Outlook 2010 Go to your task pane and then select in order: View Change View Manage View Modify Group by (this is where i set category to group by) ok Sort use drop down to select Subject. "OK" all the way out You should then see your task pane grouped by what ever you select - this is where mine is "category" and then each grouping should be alphabetized by task.
hahaha i don't know why this is in the Justin bieber category! but it is red
