Because the pins on the bottom of the processor can be easily bent (assuming that this is a processor for a PGA (Pin Grid Array) or SPGA (Staggerd PGA) socket. It is worth noting though that a processor for a LGA (Land Grid Array) socket is not as susceptible to this as the there are lands or pads on the bottom of the processor instead of pins; the pins are in the socket.
