In its simplest form, the keyboard controller that's built inside the keyboard. This is where text is converted to binary representations of the characters you type and the computer can interpret and understand the characters you type. Intel based microprocessors handle 101 key keyboards with 8 bit data (0 - 127) or 00000000 - 01111111 in binary. From there a PIO chip (Peripheral Input Output) takes over and delivers the data to the processor via a BIOS (Basic Input Output Software) Interrupt call to the processor and sends it through the data bus on the motherboard. The computer's operating system manages all BIOS Interrupts and utilizes the input for OS tasks or software input.
