Gerbils are cute, BUT rats are very clever, cute, cuddly, active, clean and you can potty train them! i have two hats and I'm very happy with them, if you do get a rat you should get two because they are less likely to get diseases in pairs and they are nicer because if you had no friends then you would be snappy to your siblings, and so rats will be shyer, meaner, more depressed and will be more nippy and bite.
so go for 2 rats not one 2.
No i should not
No. They are two completely different species. Chances are the rat would attack the gerbil and possibly kill it.
Gerbils are actually the cross between a mouse and a rat.
many animals especially gerbils enjoy company of their own kind and if you don't want baby gerbils the same sex keeps that from happening.
Gerbil/rat hybrids have not yet been achieved achieved.
They are VERY sociable animals. So they can get depressed.
Male gerbils can be neutered, but it is not recomended. Female gerbils should not be spayed. In general male gerbils should not be neutered unless there is a good reason for it.
since no one has answered you... I thought I would let you know my rat killed and ate my two gerbils. I let her out for a while and she found a way into the gerbil cage and she attacked them. ick. Another rat I had killed it's cage mate (rat).
two boy gerbils should not fight, aslong as they knew each other form since they were pups. if not, use the split cage method and you should be fine. if you leave some old bedding in the cage when you clean it out gerbils are less likely to fight. girl gerbils are more dominent so boys are less likely to fight then girls. always keep a pair of gerbils, or they will get depressed. some gerbils do like to live alone, but this is uncommon.
Gerbils are small, furry rodents with long tails and tufted feet, while rats are larger rodents with longer bodies and smaller ears. Gerbils are generally more social and less likely to bite than rats. Gerbils have a more herbivorous diet, while rats are omnivorous.
The plural of gerbil is gerbils, as in: I have two gerbils. Hope this is useful.
Gerbils' tails should be as long as the gerbil itself. If they don't, their balance will be disturbed.
